A hepatobiliary (HIDA) scan is a relatively simple, safe procedure to test how well the liver and gall bladder are functioning. Mine took a total of about 2 hours, which included setting up the IV (my veins are hard to find). The test itself took 90 minutes. The technician positioned a monitor for me to follow the progress of the test - otherwise, I would have fallen asleep.
