Hi, something very strange happens to me anytime I take a medicine or even a vitamin (magnesium) that lowers stomach acidity and I am wondering if anyone could shed any light as to why this would happen. Currently, I have acid reflux disease that has wreaked havoc in my life. Everytime I take PPI's, H-2 blockers, antacids, or magnesium supplements I experience severe depression/anxiety. I have no idea why this is. At first I just thought it was the medicine because they all have nervous symptoms as a part (albeit small part) of their side effect profile. But then the other day I started taking 400mg of magnesium for an unrelated health problem and noticed that the same things were happening to me-namely apathy and the subsequent lack of motivation that goes along with it. I therefore deduced that whenever I take something that lowers or stops acid from being produced in my stomach I suffer from these symptoms. I know this sounds strange but I am hoping that someone else on this board might know why that is or might have experienced it themselves. Currently I can't take any medication for GERD because of the above mentioned side effects and other side effects (allergic reactions to some of the medications, extreme vertigo to others) and I have gone through all the tests for surgery and am headed in that direction. If anyone has any idea why lowered stomach acidity would cause these problems please reply to this post. Thanks, mmgshih
